ca. 1921 Carleton
Carleton Canoe Company was a very early maker of wood and canvas canoes starting in the mid to late 1880’s. They were purchased by Old Town in 1910 and continued to be made as a separate line using original forms for the next few decades.
This 16’ Carleton is a very elegant canoe with nice lines and upswept ends. The seat and thwart bolts are plugged with spruce, an indication that it was made before integration into the Old Town line. All of the wood excepting new outwales but including the fan backs is original.
